2021 Lexus GX

The base GX trim has LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, a power moonroof, and keyless entry. Step up to the Premium for upgraded 18-inch alloy wheels and LED fog lights or to the Luxury for a self-leveling adaptive air suspension and washers for the headlights. The Luxury trim offers the option for an off-road package with a skid plate for the fuel tank and a transmission oil cooler.

The GX has a different look than many SUVs because it does not have a rear liftgate. It has a rear door with a passenger-side hinge, so it opens toward the curb.

All of the GX models have a 4.6-liter V-8 gas engine that produces 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque. It has a four-wheel-drive system with a dual-range transfer case and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The powerful V-8 gets this large SUV up to 60 mph in just over seven seconds. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System from Lexus comes standard with the GX providing excellent traction both on and off the road, but it's really in its element when you take it off the pavement. The 8.1 inches of ground clearance make it capable of driving over rocky terrain, and the optional off-road package adds crawl control and a multi-terrain monitor.

The three rows of seats in the GX provide seating for up to seven. Optional second-row captain's chairs reduce seating to six, but no matter which option you choose, all rows have plenty of head and legroom. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, and every trim has 10-way power-adjustable front seats.

Lexus offers the option of a wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel. You can also get heated and ventilated front- and second-row seats, and power-folding, reclining third-row seats. An 11.6 cubic-foot cargo area is behind all three rows, and if you fold down the second row, it opens up to 46.7 cubic feet.

Technology starts with an 8-inch touch screen, a 9-speaker stereo, four USB ports, an HD radio, and a 120-volt outlet. Satellite radio also comes standard. The Premium adds the Lexus Enform App suite, Amazon Alexa, and the option for a 17-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system.

All of the 2021 GX models come with a forward collision mitigation system that includes a warning before an impending collision and automatic braking if needed to avoid it; it also includes pedestrian detection. Every trim has a lane departure alert, automatic high beam headlights, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. Front and rear parking sensors come in the Premium, and the Luxury adds a surround-view camera system.
